The Meat Co. - Souq Madinat Jumeirah

The Meat Co. restaurant, A restaurant specialized in meats. Offering their diners a wide range of quality meats depending on it's origin, breed, diet etc. Surely a temple for those meat lovers who are specific about their meat and less price sensitive. We were at their Souq Madinat Jumeirah branch which was a wonderful place to eat outside the restaurant next to the open waterway. Thanks to the man made canals at Madinat Jumeirah, our lunch was cool enough to be less bothered by the sun.

[caption id="attachment_4838" align="alignnone" width="470"]The Meat Co. The Meat Co.[/caption]

TheMeatCo. in Souq Madinat Jumeirah is their first restaurant in UAE and I remember this restaurant being always jam packed in the evenings while having those lazy stroll in souq. Those good days are over, now a days you need to pay by the hour for parking your car down their basement. As you can see interiors inside is very polished but most of the diners would prefer to be eating outside next to the waters. It was beautiful sitting outside in a luxury resort as Madinat Jumeirah. I am sure most of you understand what I mean as you would have already visited Souq Madinat Jumeirah.

From the drinks the African Guava was surely the better drink out the of the two with ice cream playing a key role in the African Guava mocktail . The cool berries was quite weak in taste and sometimes even annoying when the raspberries get stuck inside the straw, eventually having to drink from the glass itself. The warm pumpkin loaf was really nice with a crunchy texture on the outside and a little sweet. We also dipped the bread in other sauces found around the table but yeah, it was a nice one to begin with.

The chef soup of the day was satisfying. They keep changing it so not sure what you'll be getting on that day but from the taste I can say you can expect a decent soup whatever it is. I was very much looking forward to the red chilli prawns. There wasn't anything spicy about the chilli prawns but the creamy sauce and that rice was impressive. The prawns are blank in taste on its own until you dip them well in that creamy sauce which gives you that taste you look forward to. I felt they should add a little more of that cream sauce as the whole dish depends on it very much. Somehow me and the rocket salad didn't get along well. Those leaves were a bit too thin for me to get a grip on them. Also I felt the balsamic dressing could have been better cause I really couldn't taste it well while having the salad.

Then came the meats which were their expertise. You have the option to choose meats of different origin like USA, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand. Different quality beefs depending on how they are fed and treated. You will find beef which are fed natural grass, A grade grass, gold grain, regular grains etc. Also on the menu you will find number of days they were fed with premium grains or grass.

I had their 200gm Australian wagyu beef. I realized how tender the beef was while I tried to cut it. The creamy mushroom sauce complimented the juicy steak very well. The manager of the restaurant told me why these beefs were special. The beefs are fed in a special area with special food like the gold grains from the beginning and not allowed to go too far away in the farm. These animals got special massage to bring tenderness in their meat and even played special soothing music for them to get the best quality out of their body. After they cut the beef, they marinate them and seal these marinated beef in a vaccum container for a few days. The more the days the tastier it gets. Such is the process involved behind the steak on your plate. I guess this explains a little why steaks at Meatco. are quite expensive. :) The lamb skewers were quite a show on our table. Almost all passer by would have their eye on this skewer. The meaty lamb cubes were succulent and easy to eat. From the sides for this one we chose the mashed potatoes.

They have a long list of desserts. The dessert platter for Dhs 70 is definitely the way to go. The 5 desserts that came in this plate were:

  1. Dark chocolate and raspberry tart

  2. Apple crumble supreme(the picture with ice cream on top)

  3. creme brulee

  4. Nutella milk chocolate cheesecake

  5. Tiramisu

Ofcourse all desserts came with their own taste. My favourite was Dark chocolate raspberry tart and nutella milk chocolate cheesecake. My guest preferred the Apple crumble supreme and creme brulee. I loved the ice cream used on Apple crumble. Click here to visit the official page of TheMeatCo. Click pictures below to see them in full screen view:

SILVER FOX - City Walk - Dubai

[caption id="attachment_4068" align="alignnone" width="470"]Silver Fox menu at our table Silver Fox menu at our table[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_4085" align="alignnone" width="470"]The big fox at silver fox The big fox at silver fox[/caption]

The first time I noticed Silver Fox restaurant was when I went to review Mo's at CITY WALK. Looked posh from the outside and the same impression remained when I went in for lunch for the first time. A royal reception, Luxury interiors, great food and surely the restaurant that you want to visit on that special day ;) Off late I've been remembering them every time I drive to office as they have a giant banner advertised on the first interchange of Sheikh Zayed road. They've also been giving away 500dhs dining vouchers on radio(I heard it on 104.8). Well, all this got me really curious to visit this handsome restaurant.

[caption id="attachment_4072" align="alignnone" width="470"]Silver fox Waiting space and the inlet for fire Silver fox Waiting space and the inlet for fire[/caption]

The interiors of this restaurant is definitely one of the best you can find inside City Walk. They even have real fire inside the restaurant during the evenings, a concept that will really sell in this cold. I was actually surprised to find the restaurant quite empty for a weekend but definitely say it's not their food, probably it has something to do with their pricing. You can't blame them, they've spent too much on their interiors. They will need to recover it from somewhere :( Most people sat outside the restaurant, eating enjoying the weather and watching skyscrapers spread on Sheikh Zayed road from a distance. Their menu pricing was not updated on their official Dubai website which came to our delight when we saw their new menu pricing cheaper :D

We got complimentary hot bread, butter, pickle and olive oil to get ready ;) Love their freshly made bread along with the peppered olive oil together. Their drinks were a little different, specially the Silver Fox VIP drink which had eggs in it! I was curious as I've never had any drink with eggs inside and they convinced me this was a special drink. I can tell you one thing, you won't realize there is any egg as the coffee and other contents override the egg. Probably at the end of the drink I began to feel a little of the egg which is when I stopped. To me overall it tasted as a nice thick coffee shake more than anything and the egg inside it didn't spoil the party. The elegant berry Fizz came thick red and was a better thirst quencher than Silver Fox VIP drink.

The french onion soup came sealed with mozzarella cheese on top. Once you open it, you find their bread floating right above the onion soup. The french onion soup, ofcourse comes flooded with onions but the soup overall was great in taste and really could appreciate it in this cold weather. Wish their soup came served in a BREAD bowl which is how I got it last time from PAUL Bakery. The III forks salad was a superb salad that stood out and will definitely be remembered. Pecans are one of my favorites and they really did flood this salad with pecans. Surely is a must try when you visit this restaurant. Every bite of the salad was delicious except that genuine crumbled blue cheese on top which is one of my least favourite cheese :(

Then came their heavy duty steak which are USDA Prime steaks which they proudly sell in their marketing campaigns. Surely that thick piece of steak gives you that look from the plate that you don't want to turn your eyes of it. The steak was definitely a good piece of meat but what really made it even better was their peppered mushroom gravy which was fab.

They also serve seafood besides steaks. The Chilean Seabass tasted fresh and to my surprise it was quite heavy in portion. I just couldn't finish it. All their maincourses comes with a complimentary side. Since we ordered two mains, we got 2 salads which were sweet potato hash and sauteed mushrooms. The sweet potato hash was an interesting side than the sauteed mushrooms. Didn't actually taste anything special with the sauteed mushrooms even though I admired their mushroom gravy. Their selection of sides would be corn, fresh asparagus, sauteed spinach, mushrooms, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, six cheese potatoes or sweet potato hash which will cost 25 dhs additional.

Then came the most unexpected part. They had some of the best desserts you can expect from a steak house. Firstly they have a different way of bringing the dessert menu to you. They don't have a menu! :P They bring the physical desserts on a tray and present it to you. You choose and they go to make a fresh one for you ;) We tried their hot bread pudding which came accompanied by a giant scoop of cinnamon ice cream. It was a wonder dessert. Never expected it to be this good. The chocolate was further mesmerizing. Their cake was even better than the humming bird bakery next to them. Overall it's been an impressive ride at Silver Fox. Pavilion Downtown Dubai - Downtown - Brunch - Dhs 99

[caption id="attachment_2960" align="aligncenter" width="705"]Saturday Brunch - Dhs 99 Saturday Brunch at Pavilion Downtown - Dhs 99[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2951" align="aligncenter" width="705"]Saturday Brunch - Dhs 99 From the bench on our table at Pavilion Downtown - Dhs 99[/caption]

Our Saturday morning has been fun filled last weekend. Thanks to this interesting brunch provided at the good looking Pavilion Downtown cafe located at Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. It's hard to notice this cafe until someone tells you about it. If you appreciate architecture, design and have been wanting to know your options in buying a property this could be an all in one stop shop for some of you.

The building where this cafe is located can be divided into two sides. One side is where you explore new properties and buildings happening at Downtown. The other side is where this trendy cafe is located. The moment you enter this building you notice its pure, clean, modern design, spacious hall and you get to see latest models of buildings which you see being built around Downtown. This pavilion downtown Dubai will be found on the right side.

So I take right and enter this Pavilion Downtown cafe. To my delight the very first thing I was happy to see was the kids play area and so were the kids happy to see it :D I could now dream about enjoying my brunch peacefully :) This spot did play an important role in giving me that extra freedom to focus on my brunch today, as they were busy playing inside their new space. Pretty impressive, especially when I think about all those quality branded toys they have for the kids. My favourite was the SAAB car they have in there for the kids. Girl or a boy I am sure none of them would want to be disturbed once they are in there. :)

Once I went further inside the cafe I was impressed to see the english brunch arranged on a wooden bench and the looks that were coming from those brunch menu on that table was so attractive that you just would stare at it for a while before you picked your seat. One side of this cafe is glass so you get some nice natural light pouring in. The ambience was healthy too. I thought not much people knew about this cafe but to my surprise there seemed a great inflow that day. Maybe it was the effects of their saturday brunch menu.

I love their cakes, tarts, freshly made cookies. I remember how the freshly baked cookies came hot and was soft in the mouth. Their tarts and cakes were the best sellers. They make it very well and I could see a good demand for it. I enjoyed their woopie too I mistook the woopie for macaroons initially until my wife told me that it was woopie.  You had ample of options for your fresh juices like apple, mango, water melon, mixed fruit, pineapple and orange juice. If you like cut fruits then you could pick up their fruit jar :). Around the same corner you would find other cold items like yoghurt and muesli.

I wasn't very impressed with their wraps and sandwiches. Although Some were nice but most were not great.  If I compare their sandwiches to their other items like cakes, tarts etc then I'd say they can do better here as I thought it didn't have enough to be a crowd puller as much as the other items on the menu did.

We had a fantastic start to our brunch by ordering some of their top class drinks such as the Passion Punch and Blackberry detox. They've got a big list of drinks and the passion punch was definitely giving us a punch at every sip to our taste buds. Of course you need to pay for them separately as it's not part of their saturday brunch for Dhs 99. But the good news for the saturday brunch is that you do get a complimentary tea/coffee which is worth Dhs 25. That could be any hot drink from their list such as:

  • Espresso - Dhs 20

  • Americano - Dhs 22

  • Cappuccino|Latte|Moka - Dhs 26

  • Turkish Coffee - Dhs 22

  • Hot Chocolate - Dhs 25

  • English breakfast tea - Dhs 20

  • Green tea - Dhs 20

  • Chamomile tea - Dhs 20

  • Moroccan tea - Dhs 25

  • Ear grey tea - Dhs 20

I did try their latte and noticed most of their coffees come elegantly to you with different layers. Pouring coffee into a glass is now turning out to be an art of it's own. You see that coffee on that desk and even if you drink only tea in your life you get tempted to taste it.

  • Eggs Benedict | whole wheat bisquit | sauteed chard

  • Two eggs | veal bacon | chicken sausage | mushroom | basked vine tomato | potato

  • Omlette | egg whites | spinach | feta cheese | herbs

As you can see we tried two of them. Eggs benedict and Pancakes. The only reason why I ordered Eggs benedict was cause I could see the whole house going for the eggs benedict :p  So I too got one of their famous eggs benedict. The fancy egg was attractive and yummy ;) . The pancakes were soft, light with a strong blueberry sauce on top.

You know to be honest, I couldn't see much value for their breakfast plate(Dhs 80) after trying their wide variety brunch for only Dhs 99.
